AbstractAfter a short introduction, this paper first describes the merits of observation of solar magnetic fields in the infrared wavelength region and then discusses successively the observations, data and methods of analysis in infrared magneto-sensitive spectral lines, such as He I 10830 Aring, Fe I 1.5 mum and Mg I 12 mum. These lines are formed in the chromosphere as well as in the deepest and the upper layers of the photosphere. Therefore, they can be used to probe the magnetic fields in a large range of heights in the solar atmosphere. Thereafter, the author introduces the main achievements with magnetic elements and sunspot magnetic fields as examples. In conclusion some suggestions are proposed for the infrared study of solar magnetic fields
